Praying with Trees
When we first arrived from our Holy Land Pilgrimage, I can’t help but marvel at the blessing of green earth, green grass, and green trees in the Philippines. Most parts of Dubai, Jordan, Egypt and part of the Holy Land are dry, desertified and depressing. But the first sights we have, especially upon landing at the air strip of Surigao, are the green trees and the green grass read more.

adopt-a-tree project

“Oh the Lady is waiting on top of the hill”. . . . . .so goes the song of the devotees of our Lady, Regina Rosarii whose image lovingly gazes at us on the roof deck of the Regina Rosarii Center for Contemplative Prayer at #70 Scout Fernandez Street. This inspirational song has remained consistent in its desire that one day, our Lady, Regina Rosarii will be enthroned on top of the hill. Because of this dream, the “Adopt-a-Tree” project was launched. This project was conceptualized by Sister Eppie F. Brasil, OP, the founder of the Dominican Sisters of Regina Rosarii, to make true our Lady’s wish to wait “on top of the hill”. This wish will soon be fulfilled. A 13.5 hectare land in Bgy. Sampaloc, Tanay, Rizal will soon become the Regina Rosarii Institute for Contemplation in Asia (RICA).
While there are skeptics who doubt the realization of this dream, many believers of the power of our Lady, Regina Rosarii and her Baby Jesus, remain steadfast in their eagerness to help acquire the 13.5 property in Tanay, Rizal through the “Adopt-a-Tree” undertaking. This is simply done by signing up a brochure and donating P550.00 per month for thirteen (13) months or a one-time donation of P7,150.00. Why Adopt-a-Tree? Because almost 10,000 mahogany trees abound at the site in Tanay, Rizal. By adopting a tree, one will not only contribute to acquire the land and leave a legacy, but also join in preparing a Prayer Place, an Ecological Sanctuary and a Wholeness Center for every wearied soul who longs for a place of stillness, silence, serenity and simplicity. In short, he or she will become a partner in creating a Sacred Space in this world of chaos and financial meltdown.
The Adopt-a-Tree project is on its sixth month now, having started only in January 2009. At present, there are more than 500 donors who have signed up and donated either on a one-time (P7,150.00) or monthly (P550.00) basis. Still a long journey towards its completion, but we have fervent trust in the Divine Providence. We believe that many generous hearts will be touched to respond to our Lady’s wish to wait “on top of the hill” at RICA in Tanay, Rizal. This is a huge undertaking of the Dominican Sisters of Regina Rosarii and in cooperation with the Regina Rosarii Contemplative Association (ROCA), the Regina Rosarii Service Assistants (ROSA), the Club 513, their benefactors and friends. Huge as it may seem, everyone working hand in hand under the guidance of the Almighty, will make this dream project come true because, “WITH GOD, NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE” (Lk.1:37).
